Well. Great. Looks like I'm broken up from Grey's Anatomy too.

I got offered an 'assessment' tomorrow at a local hotel. Minimum wage, but then most jobs are. Minimum not Living. It's still more than JSA.

I don't think I can keep watching Merlin )

New Grey's Anatomy tonight! It's the first episode of season 9! We're well behind the USA, again, but I have thus far managed to avoid spoilers. The temptation is getting enormous, even though it's on tonight! I also have managed to avoid learning about the new 2 Broke Girls and Big Bang Theory, which I think is pretty good since they started the week after I left Hawaii!

In other news; I am so happy for America and the world that President Obama has been given a second term. Romney was really worrying, as was the prospect someone with his values and attitudes might be popular enough to become president. Plus, perhaps now the house of representatives might stop voting down all of his policies and America can make progress again?

Urgh. That's reminded me, we have to elect Police Commissioners. My postal ballot has arrived, so I guess I'd better get and Google the candidates. They've not done any leaflet drops, or news appearances or any other form of self promotion in my area, so I don't know who any of them are. Fun. Ooooh, there's a Conservative, Lib Dem, Labour (as expected), but there's an Independent too!

Recipe )

I'm a freezer addict so the chopped onions, garlic, ginger, chili and the chopped tomatoes all came from the freezer. I cannot recommend buying these ingredients frozen highly enough; you can use every bit of the product, no waste from onions that look good outside and are rotten inside, no waste from peeling or only needing a little bit, it keeps for as long as you need and because it's all ready prepared you don't have to spend time chopping or peeling, you just get on with cooking!

Oh dear god. I use Tumblr Saviour, but while 'porn' works, I've had to stop black listing 'nsfw' because it randomly blocks posts that haven't used that tag and sometimes 20-30 posts in a row were hidden without reason which gets really, really boring to scroll through.

So. Stuff tagged 'nsfw' displays.

Queue me refreshing the page, putting the computer down, and walking away to get some sauce for my fries, my brother (who I'm talking to) is in the room and can see my screen.

Of course, of freaking course that's when someone posts two people very obviously fucking without tagging it 'porn', just tagging it 'nsfw'.

And of course, the first thing out of my mouth is 'oh my god, tag your porn!' thus drawing attention to it.

Fail. Faaaaaail.

Now I shall watch The Sum of All Fears and think fondly of this afternoon when my dashboard was sprinkled with puppies, foxes and kittens rather than untagged porn.

Dairy free cookies (though they do contain egg so aren't actually Mum-friendly)

Recipe makes about 4 dozen.

1 cup cocoa
2 cups sugar (granulated)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
4 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups AP flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup icing sugar (to roll the cookies in)

whisk together flour, baking powder and salt
beat together oil, cocoa, sugar and add eggs 1 at a time
add vanilla
add flour mix
chill for 4 hours or freeze for 15 minutes.

heat oven to 350f/gas mark 4
roll rounded teaspoons of chilled dough into a ball, then roll the ball in icing sugar to coat
bake 10-12 minutes
cool on baking sheet 2 mins then remove to rack.

I didn't make any of these cookies today, but I did find the recipe while I was trying to locate copies of our Sky and Virgin Media bills (our modem is on the blink) thought I'd write it down here so that I can chuck out the very mucky piece of scrap I'd written the recipe on. They're very delicious cookies!

WTFish.

My two remaining red wag platys have just disappeared leaving no trace and I've just had to remove one of my zebra danios from the tank half eaten.

I think they are killing and eating each other.

Why now? They've been fine together for months! They didn't die while I was in Hawaii, why did they wait until now when I'm feeling miserable already!
souliesoul: (girlies - kitties - mine)
I'm off to Hawaii tomorrow. I'm pretty much going to be internet free for the whole time, but I've got lots and lots of fic and like, four books, on my Kindle.

I'm nervous about the airports and my overnight stop in LA, but I am really looking forward to getting to Hawaii!

Back in two and a bit weeks! Bye!

Total Recall was great! ****

I'm watching the Paralympic Opening Ceremony and wondering why we have a separate games for disabled people. We have separate events for men and women during the Olympics, could the Paralympic events not be held at the same time too? But then I also wonder if wanting the Paralympics to be merged into the Olympics is offensive to disabled people - perhaps having a separate event is preferred? And it would be seen as a denial of independence rather than a celebration of unity? Which is not my intention in wondering about this.

Relatedly; this is over-running just as badly as the Olympic opening ceremony, the flame just got lit and Channel 4's schedule on Sky says this should have ended 42 minutes ago. Mum's had to give up and go to bed as she's got a meeting tomorrow morning with her boss and didn't want to be tired for that. It's a real shame, she was so excited for this!

So, I know that Prince Harry is actually Prince Henry, but he goes by Harry for pretty much everything, so why was he called Prince Henry for the Olympic closing ceremony?

The Grand Prix Freestyle must be such a headache for the telly networks/organisers in terms of getting permission to broadcast this music globally.

Sadly, I'm not going to get to watch all the competitors; I've got the dentist between 2 and 3. I'm hoping to be home before the first British rider at 3.20, but my dentist runs consistently behind. If I'd realised that the red button coverage would mean getting to watch all the equestrian coverage, I'd have checked the date when I booked and waited another week!

I know I have a million things to do, but it's the Olympic Dressage Grand Prix, so of course I'm watching that. And I know he's not on Team GB but team Canada, but man, my heart goes out to David Marcus. His horse, Capital, just completely lost it. No idea what caused the problem, but it meant he got eliminated. All that hard work, and he gets rained on and then something freaks out Capital badly enough to get them sent off.

Actually, the last three or four riders have had really heavy rain over at least part of their test, which really sucks for them, but at least now it's (briefly, there are masses of dark grey clouds when they show the sky) sunny for Lyndal Oatley from Australia.

Carl Hester is in the lead! It's funny, I'm sure he was a big name in dressage all the way back when I first was interested in riding as a little girl. Horse riding is so open in some ways - you aren't restricted from it by physical ability, age or gender - but you are restricted by cost; learning to ride, keeping a horse, it's all stupidly expensive. Anyway, focusing on the positives; it's wonderful that it's a sport where men and women compete directly, and where you aren't forced to retire before you hit forty! Plus horses are really cute and have very soft noses.

I feel really sorry for Andy Murray. Everyone was all 'pfft, no chance' and now he's through to the final he's saying it won't mean anything if he doesn't win - and no wonder! He only started to get support when he got to the semi and then to the final. If he doesn't win, the papers will be all about his failure and he won't get support next time. Nevermind it's years and years since a British man was in the final!

The BBC coverage is a little odd as today is home to both the British Grand Prix (which I want to watch) and the Men's Wimbledon Final (which I will be watching because I wanted to watch a bit, but Mum wants to watch it all). GP coverage starts for 50mins on BBC1, then switches to BBC2 when Wimbledon kicks off so that it can be on BBC1, after the MotoGP has finished on BBC2. Of course, with the weather there is every chance that while play can continue at Wimbledon, they'll have the safety car out at Silverstone, so I may as well watch it on Sky+.

Wimbledon continued until two minutes past ten on BBC2 last night, delaying the next Hollow Crown (Henry IV) by over an hour, so I missed the second half because I was too tired and went to bed.

The flooding going on is awful; thus far my city is fine, but so many others have had belongings ruined - and there have been a couple of deaths - it's mostly belongings and livelihoods that have been spoiled, but it's obviously really bad for the people it's affecting. They interviewed one woman who had been back in her home for just six weeks after the last round of flooding, and her insurance hadn't even fully paid out for the repairs and replacements from that flood. But it's nothing like the terrible tragedy that has befallen Russia though; people drowned sleeping or electrocuted.

I saw Snow White and the Huntsman last night and loved it! Spoilers! )

This episode of CSI has really thrown me; they were all confused over what weapon was used, and then all surprised about the qualities of the FN P90. It's the weapon that every sci fi show ever has used. Even Doctor Who has put the FN P90 onto the telly! I'm kind of shocked that it's not on file...

Episode has redeemed itself with a close up of a vulture :D

Lol, I just spent the last hour and a half talking Mum through Thor! She was quite confused about who Loki was, and how he managed to have a suit on Earth but shiny armour on Asgard. ("Without having to use a phonebox!")

She decided she was too tired just as Thor returns to Asgard, but I pretty much covered all the Loki feels and what happens after this point already, so... Fairly sure she thinks I'm loopier than ever!

At one point, when she was confused about who Loki was, she asked if Sif was Loki; I think I must have confused her more because I couldn't help explaining a bit about how Loki has, in the comics, taken Sif's form, so she could have been right (except this time she wasn't).

I love this movie.

Avengers Assemble spoilers within! )

There are many things I've not said, but this is over a thousand words about Loki feels and a few hundred of other feels and I am tired. I've now seen Avengers Assemble three times, and I want to go again tomorrow morning. Can't though. My coursework won't finish itself! (Plus I expect the cinema will be packed with full screens for Avengers and other movies and that's horrid.)
souliesoul: (loki - marvel - quadratur)
Avengers Assemble reaction beneath cut. Post with description of movie etc to follow when I am not about to fall asleep. )

(Please note, Loki is my favourite character today - I spent all morning reading Loki-centric fic - and his expression in the icon should not be taken as an indication of my feelings toward the movie, that's all behind the cut.)

Weird. I dreamed I was at a tea house, having tea, when a woman from another table reached over and stirred my tea with her teaspoon, then ran off. I then had to try to explain to the management why I wanted another cup of tea, and quite aside from the other-person's-spoon issue, the thing I kept repeating was that her tea had a purple/blue tinge and I'm allergic to lavender and what was in her tea?

I think the tea-dream was a uni stress dream presented in a tea fashion both because I intend to retreat to Costa for a pot while I work, and because I was reading Cara's tea-comic-issues posts before bed.

The reason I'm making this post I'm sure no one will read? In a response to a supportive ask, Cara writes "Ironically the tea I’m drinking tonight isn’t one of my blends, but a blend of Earl Grey and Lavender because it’s the most comforting combination I can think of right now o////o;;;" (emphasis mine). (Quote from here.) Hah, lavender in tea (though most likely it wasn't purple/blue at all).
